This past weekend we went to a wedding in NYC. It was at the Tribeca Rooftop. It was a beautiful wedding with really yummy food and great company. It was especially nice to see friends we have not seen in awhile.

I made this card for the happy couple:

Cropped Mystery Box Challenge #2

Today  I finally tackled the second Challenge for the Cropped Mystery Box Challenge.

Challenge #2:

This challenge was to use Paper Layerz to create 9 mini scrapbook layouts. Then use a second sheet to create the embellishments.

So it just so happens my daughter is almost 9 months old.  I decided to show how much she has grown and changed in each of the 9 squares of the Paper Layerz.

Weekend Project Done!

We finally finished our weekend project. It took two weekends, but who is counting? My husband decided he was not happy with the finish so he sanded off the shellac and used General Finishes Arm-R-Seal Urethane Topcoat instead. It came out a lot more smooth and my husband, the perfectionist, was finally somewhat satisfied with it.

The wood sign ready for the vinyl
I had a lot of problems with Cricut Craft Room when I was trying to add the apostrophes, but I finally got them on after having to restart the program numerous times.  It kept freezing up on me, which was really aggravating. Hopefully Provo Craft keeps trying to improve the program because right now it still has a lot of bugs.

Today Carrie and I tackled our first Cropped Mystery Box Challenge.

Create a card that is similar in style or technique to the "Sunset Card" from the 123 Stamp DVD.

Weekend Mini Project - Not so much...

Well this was supposed to be a weekend mini project (Sign, Progress) but like all things it is taking longer than I first anticipated. First off I recruited my husband to help and he is a perfectionist. So he has been sanding and shellacing and re-sanding and re-shellacing it over and over again to get the perfect finish. I'm cutting him off tomorrow, hehe.

In the mean time my 12x24 Cricut mats arrived along with my 12x24 black vinyl. So I decided I needed to get my act together (and stop blaming only my husband) and create the lettering for the sign. So I opened up Cricut Craft Room (aka CCR) and began laying it out.

First I measured the sign and it is 18.75W x 8.25 H . So I made a rectangle the same size in CCR to use as a template so I know what size I have to work with.

Monstrous Shower Fun!

I HAVE BEEN BUSY CRAFTING AWAY:)

We are throwing a surprise baby shower for my friend and her son this Sunday. So I won't be able to post this until after the shower because I know she reads this blog once in a while and I don't want to ruin the surprise for her. (Post written 8/23/12)

On one of her Pinterest boards she has all of these cute monster ideas for her nursery. So I thought it would be really fun to go with that theme.

So first up I made her a Smash Book / Junk Journal.  I have been wanting to make one of these for a while and I had just received a Bind-It-All for my birthday. So I decided to go for it. Plus I thought it would be a great idea for my friend to have a Smash Book for when the baby comes or even to help document the end of her pregnancy. She is an avid scrapbooker and has big plans for her baby book. So I thought this would be great for her to "Smash" things on the fly so that she would later have the info for her baby book.

I scoured many sites and Pinterest Pins for ideas. Check out my board to see my inspirations.

Here is my 2 part video about my very first Smash Book / Junk Journal:

Weekend Mini Project Progress

So far I was successful with enlisting my husband with making my sign. I asked him for a scrap piece of wood and this is what he gave me.

Tiger Striped Curly Maple
Can you believe this is what he has for scrap wood? I asked for crappy scrap wood because I had envisioned maybe mopodging the whole thing with some scrapbookpaper. Now I can't imagine covering this beautiful piece of wood. He said he doesn't have any crappy wood, haha. What a wood snob.

Here it is after he rounded the corners with his router
Here it is with some shellac for protection and
to help bring out the grain
Now I 'm afraid to do anything to it. It's so pretty. I told my husband we should just hang it as is on the wall as is. Hopefully today I can start using my Cricut to cut out some practice letters to get the right font and size down before cutting my vinyl.

Isn't she beautiful

Well off to chase the baby around first;)

Weekend Mini Project

I found this adorable sign on Pinterest and I absolutely love it.

We have a glass door with a big window leading out to the backyard. Our dog Lucy has made that window so dirty with her nose prints.
Here Lucy is looking
out the window.
Putting this sign near the door would be really fantastic. So I plan to do this project this weekend. I'm going to see if my hubby can cut me a nice piece of wood from his scrap pile. Then sweet talk him into rounding the edges with his router for me. I will then paint it or mod podge some cute scrapbooking paper onto it. Then cut out the letters with my cricut. I'll probably do vinyl letters. Or use it to make stencils and then paint it. I'm not sure yet.

I'll post the project as I go. Let me know if you have any suggestions.

Engagement Card

So I am really excited. My brother just got engaged to his long time girlfriend. So I whipped up this Engagement Card for them.

I had some issues making it. I was using Cricut Craft Room to set up the file. When I was cutting from it my Expression was cutting super slow. So annoying. Finally when I got everything cut out and assembled, I was writing on the inside then closed it and saw that I got ink all down the front. I had to replace the girl. You can see some of the ink on the swirl. Oh well, I think it still came out ok. What do you think?

I also had fun using my Cuttlebug for the background.

Naughty Sugar Doughnuts Part II

So a while back I made some sugar doughnuts (see post). I thought they came out alright. However, I had trouble cooking them at the right temperature. I kept getting the outside of the doughnuts browned way too fast leaving the inside doughy. So I decided to try again.

All you need:

  • Olive Oil in Deep Fryer @ 325°
  • Canned Biscuits (Pillsbury Simply Buttermilk Biscuits)
  • Melted Butter
  • Sugar & Cinnamon
  • Powdered Sugar (new topping option)

Instead of using the Jumbo Buttermilk Biscuits that I used last time I decided to try just regular biscuits to give them an airier consistency.
I used Pillsbury Simply Buttermilk Biscuits
The second thing I decided to try was to do them in our deep fryer instead of the frying pan. I figured it would solve my temperature problem.

Homemade Cards Galore

Here are some cards I have made recently. We have been crazy busy with weddings, baby showers, etc.

Baby Shower

Sweet Pea Baby Shower Favors

I wanted to do fun baby shower guest favors for my sister-in-law. I preferred to do something different then food. So I thought it would be cute to give out pea seeds. My sister-in-law loves to garden so it fit perfect.

I decided to go with peas to do the whole "sweet pea" theme. I had also contemplated doing flower seeds. If you do flowers it could say "So and So's baby is about to bloom."

I bought my seeds at
Lowe's Home Improvement.

Diaper Cakes

As many parents of babies know you fly through diapers. Then on top of it babies grow like weeds, FAST. Our daughter flew through size 1 and 2 and we were left with a bunch of too small diapers. Luckily it seems like everyone we know is having babies so I knew they would not go to waste. Plus I have always wanted to make a diaper cakes so this all worked out perfect.

Check out my first ever diaper cake:

Ceramic Coasters

These are so fun and easy to make. There is so many things you can do. One of my friends did these as her favor for her wedding. They were really cute and we still use ours. (I originally got directions from Two Girls Being Crafty Blog)

What you'll need:
  • Pretty Paper: Scrapbook paper, wrapping paper, etc
  • Scissors (my cutter worked great)
  • Mod Podge
  • Water-resistant, Clear Acrylic spray or Polyurethane spray (I bought Crystal Clear Enamel Spray Paint by Rustoleum for $4.99 at Home Depot, seemed to work fine)
  • Foam/sponge brush
  •  Felt or cork board  (I got a roll of cork board at Michaels)
  • Ceramic Tiles ($0.16 each at Home Depot)
  • My husband had Gorilla Glue which I used to glue the cork to the bottom

Shower Caddy Craft Storage

I made a new addition to my pegboard. I had seen on Pinterest someone using a shower caddy that goes over the shower head on the wall to store some craft stuff. I though that was pretty cleaver but thought it would be even better on my peg board. It gave me more shelves to store more jars.

Craft Room Project

The first project that Pinterest inspired me to do was to finally create my craft area. I'm really proud of it. It turned out better then I imagined. It's amazing how much stuff I already owned but had no idea because it was spread out throughout the whole house.
I love the pegboard. It lets me hang everything up so I can see it all. I'm also loving the organization that it provides. My husband framed it for me and helped me hang it up He also installed the shelves for me. He was a huge help.
